As Jesus said “When you do this to the least of these, you do this unto me also”.
The things we take for granted every day, climbing steps to the front door, walking into the comfort of our homes, is second nature. But there are those less fortunate coming home from the hospital every day for which this has now become an obstacle to overcome. Overcoming this obstacle is where the Reidland United Methodist Men have found their call to mission in our community. This is a very meaningful and uplifting ministry for all who participate. Yet, there is an even greater need for this outreach to grow, to help as many as possible so they can receive an answer of YES to their prayers.
Over the years, we became THE "go to" organization, and both Lourdes and Baptist Home Health Care come to us with their request. In this area, we are one of the few organizations with any funding or consistent volunteer work force in the area. State and federal monies can only assist in ramp building for those who own their own home. We fill the void for people who do not qualify.
To build ramps that are compliant to ADA and local building codes – as well as safe and usable – requires more than just putting a piece of plywood over existing stairs. We build each ramp knowing that they need to be usable to both the client and their family (who often bear the burden of pushing their loved one in a wheelchair), as well as medical personnel who sometimes have to transport such patients to and from the hospital. Careful interviewing, surveying and plan drawing take place on every ramp we build. |
